The Inner Path: The Power of Our Words

Thousands of words pour out of our mouths daily, freely expressing our thoughts and opinions.  However, we're rarely aware to the positive or negative effect they have on ourselves and the people around us, at least not consciously, anyway.  But, words give out energy and a message which creates a reaction in others.  And, it all begins with a thought. Our thoughts have tremendous effect on us even though they're internal. What we think, effects our emotions, our attitudes and our behavior. A thought spoken, however, has even more power...it can't ever be taken back; it's been said and will have an effect.

Think of your words like a boomerang, the reaction often returns in a multiplied form..... if you speak words of judgement to someone they will judge you back, probably with more intensity since their judgement has the pain or anger, caused by your words, attached to it....get it.  Whereas words of kindness and acceptance will generate a warm and appreciative reaction in a person...
..that person’s response to your kind words will be stronger because it will have the emotion, created by your kind words, attached to it....how about that.

Dr. Wayne Dyer, motivational speaker and author of the Power of Intention, explains that kindness releases Serotonin, a naturally occurring substance in the body that makes us feel more comfortable, peaceful, and even blissful and says that a simple act of kindness directed toward another person improves the functioning of the immune system and stimulates the production of serotonin in both the recipient of the kindness and the person extending the kindness, and even more amazing is that persons observing the act of kindness have similar beneficial results. Can you imagine kindness extended, received, or observed beneficially impacts the spiritual, physical and emotional health of everyone involved....kindness is a win-win for all.

The words that we speak need to be in alignment with what we want to see being produced in our life – our vision and our dreams. Here are 5 reminders to get and keep your thoughts, words and actions in alignment:
  1. Take control of your words - Don't let your words control you,  in other words....think twice before you speak.
  2. Be more conscious - Know the power your thoughts and words unleash.
  3. Understand the need to speak positively -Know that speaking positively brings success into fruition.
  4. Shape your character by the words you speak - Through virtues such as integrity and honesty and the Fruits of the Spirit; love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control, you build and shape your character.
  5. Speak uplifting words - Speak words that will build self-esteem, confidence, words of affirmation, encouragement, love, and appreciation....daily.
Your words can determine your destiny. Remember your words have power and can make a positive difference on the people you interact with every day.  So, before you speak ask yourself: Is what I am about to say to this person going to uplift them? Will it inspire or motivate forward momentum for them? Be a mirror and redirect those same words toward you...now do you like them?  Be the change you wish to see and unleash the power of words.....in a positive way.
